Who We Are

Head Start is a federally funded, nationally recognized, curriculum-based early childhood education program designed to promote school readiness for low-income families. As part of LKLP Community Action, our Head Start and Early Head Start centers are located across Leslie, Knott, Letcher and Perry counties. Serving at-risk children from birth to 5 years old, as well as expectant mothers, Head Start prides itself in being the nation’s premier early education program.

Head Start

Head Start serves children ages 3 through 5, and their families. Children participate in a variety of educational, school-readiness activities that help prepare them for kindergarten.

Early Head Start

Early Head Start provides services for children from birth to 3 years old, as well as pregnant women. Children are primarily served at Early Head Start centers.

Academic Success

Preparing students to enter kindergarten at or above state school readiness goals is our primary objective. Our screening, assessment and curriculum tools allow us to develop individualized educational plans for maximum success. We use The Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum, which builds children’s confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills through hands-on project-based investigations.
